Johnson Nguyen

My earliest introduction to fitness was when my dad signed me up for Taekwondo at 6 years old. From that point forward, sports and activity have become a core piece of my identity. After practicing Taekwondo for several years, I moved on to explore team sports such as soccer and football. From many coaches and mentors throughout the years, I have learned life long lessons about work ethic and resilience that I implement in my own coaching philosophy.

Upon graduating high school and the end of my football career, I needed a new passion to replace the competitive fire that still burned inside me, thus leading me to the sport of powerlifting in 2017.

In 2018, I did my first powerlifting competition and since then, powerlifting has entrenched itself at the forefront of who I am as a person. Following my education, I decided to purse a career in health and wellness to introduce this incredible sport to others looking to become the strongest version of themselves.

About Johnson’s Coaching

I strongly believe in meeting people where they are at and following a pace that is safe and sustainable to progress within. My coaching practice is predicated on empathy and support in addition to practicing training modalities that match the modern standard. My goal is to identify the right training dosage that aligns with your current lifestyle.

  • I did my first competition in 2018 at the Kelowna Hard Knox open. Since then I’ve done 10 more competitions, building my craft. I achieved my dream of competing in a Nationals event in 2023. My current goal is to best that performance in the upcoming 2024 Nationals in Summerside PEI.

  • My first training certification is the NASM Certified Personal Trainer course, and since then have undergone multiple mentorships and course work pertaining to biomechanics (Conor Harris) and other facets of fitness.

  • Keep it simple. My aim is to teach people the fundamental movement patterns and get them moving proficiently. No flashy gimmicks or quirky gadgets, training with me is accessible, fun and most of all effective. I want people to be strong and empowered, confident that they can go into any gym and dominate their workout.
